This is the countries #1 Amazing Drive. I don’t make that claim lightly!

The cover photo of our book Troubleshooting with Your Senses – Your Roadside Guide was taken here!

    Location:
Located in Utah, between Wendover and Salt Lake City. The actual spur road to get to the Salt Flats is located off Interstate 80.

    Description:
After reaching the end of the spur road, you’ll see a sign that says Welcome. The road simply ends and you drive onto the salt. The condition of the salt varies significantly. The best time to drive it is in the summer, when it is dry. In the winter or wet season, the entire area can fill with water which makes the salt undriveable, because you will get stuck.

During the dry season, when we were there, the salt is very flat, and very smooth. It has surprisingly good traction with characteristics similar to that of a dusty paved road. It is not rough like gravel.

Now for the important part. There is no speed limit. there are no rules unless a scheduled event is planned. Especially during the week, you have the entire park to yourself at times. We had no problems traveling at over 120 MPH without seeing so much as a rock or any other form of life. It is desolate and isolated unless a scheduled event is going on. Over 100 square miles of car funland! This is THE place to race your buddies, and it’s legal.

Remember this: if you get in trouble, there is NO ONE there to help you. I don’t remember if we had cell phone service or not.

If you are anywhere near this area, you MUST go for a drive here. It is almost worth a plane ticket. This is definitely one for the bucket list.
